The club has worked closely with the Forestry Commission since its inception, in an effort to be involved in future dialogue regarding downhill mountain bike trails across the country. We have developed a very good working relationship with their staff and have been invited, on occasion, to help advise on adaptations and improvements to many current facilities.
We have discussed possible suitable venues for building new trails and have, in conjunction with senior staff members, drawn up a comprehensive set of “trail building guidelines” to help improve the overall design and access to new facilities during the construction stages. We also aim to help improve the uplift services at some of the best trails, to help make gravity biking a much more accessible sport for everyone across the country.

We are very excited about our current project, funded by Gloucester Environmental Trust, to develop new trails in the Forest of Dean. We are collaborating with world renowned trail designers Architrail, to help create the UK’s first purpose built gravity bike trails! The company is passionate about mountain biking and have been designing trails for almost a decade.
Architrail has an impressive track construction portfolio, including projects in challenging environments, sensitive locations and protected sites. Their trails are not only fun to ride, but also maximise longevity by using intelligent trail design, ensuring that trails remain in a high quality state well beyond the date of completion. They have pioneered their own unique style of mountain bike trail design and are always innovating new creative trail features.
Every member of their team is also an experienced and passionate cyclist and they aim to infuse this enthusiasm into every project undertaken, to create facilities that allow riders to embrace and interact with the environment in a safe and mutually beneficial way. Above all, they believe that all cycling facilities should be fun and will always push the boundaries to ensure that this is the case.

Pedalabikeaway, the Forest of Dean’s premier trail centre, has been located at Cannop since 1987. The centre now offers every type of riding experience, from the easy-going family cycle trail to cross-country routes and a challenging range of downhill trails. Our club is very lucky to have established a very friendly working relationship with the centre, and all it’s staff, as they have shown a great deal of interest and support for us since we first started riding the many trails on offer in the area. Their help and co-operation will enable us to expand the gravity biking scene, opening up opportunities for many more people to come and try this exciting sport.
The Dean Trail Volunteers is a group of riders from all disciplines, working in partnership with the Forestry Commission, to develop and maintain the mountain bike trails in the Forest of Dean. They are a dedicated band of individuals with an overall aim of creating a variety of enjoyable and challenging XC and DH trails for locals and visitors alike. Our club is also looking forward to working closely with this team, both when the new dedicated gravity bike trail is being constructed and, once it is completed.

The Ultimate Bikeshop is based in the beautiful and internationally renowned mountain biking region of Finale Ligure, in Northern Italy. The people, the trails and the scenery here are all amazing, and we highly recommend a visit to this world famous MTB venue. The shop itself has everything from parts and accessories, to clothing and protective equipment. They deal with bike hire and sales, and offer bike maintenance and repairs, with a fully equipped workshop and competent mechanics. They also have a half or full day bike shuttle service for riders, and run an MTB school for children to enjoy!
In May of 2014 some of our club members were lucky enough to be invited over, to meet and ride with shop owners Riky and Enza. We were able to test and experience some of the fantastic DH trails the area has to offer. Our hosts made us feel very welcome and did everything they could to help us during the visit. They have subsequently secured important support and backing to begin the process of introducing gravity biking trails, and equipment, to their region. We are therefore looking forward to a long and healthy relationship with the shop and all it’s staff, to help promote our inclusive version of mountain biking in another part of Europe.
