The primary reason for launching this club is to give wheelchair users the opportunity to enjoy the thrills of off-road downhill mountain bike racing, promoting it nationwide.
We want to raise interest and awareness in this new activity and the disabled MTB racing scene. We are very enthusiastic about this project, and have already been in touch with various organisations, who have all reacted very positively to these new bespoke downhill sports chairs, the disabled racing scene and the club's ambitions.
Our main aim now is to recruit more people to the ROUGH RIDERZ club.
We want to build up our mailing list of members and keep you all informed of developments within the club and the sport. The club works closely with a supplier of 4 wheel downhill mountain bikes, so we also are able to provide more detailed information about buying your own machine, air-freight costs, importation arrangements, product specification and availability, etc.
We can even help advise you on how to obtain possible financial assistance with your purchase, if required.
We want to start a fully inclusive 'downhill racing community' here in the UK, to help us to spread the knowledge and different experiences of the various people involved. As our membership grows we hope to create enough interest to open a dialogue with the relevant organisations with a view to developing more accessible fourcross friendly sites.
We also want them to adapt more of the existing trails, so we can all enjoy some serious downhill thrills. We will also share information on things such as good UK trails available, new UK trails opening, good foreign locations and/or holidays, competition events and other news.
This club has been formed for the benefit of all members, with the overall aim of eventually forming a 'fully sponsored' team of our own. We also want to find enough funding to enable us to invest in some spare bikes and other equipment, so the club can offer 'taster days' for newcomers to the sport. We want to encourage any riders who are interested in this project to join the club… both able-bodied and disabled people are welcome, anybody at all who wants to get involved.
